Painting a car is better left to the professionals. The professional car painters have all the equipment needed to do a great job at car painting. You need sprayers, masks, and tape among other things to paint a car. Painting your own car can be fun if you have the desire to do it yourself. Last summer my boys decided they like to do it. They fix up their own cars and paint them. It has now become a family hobby. We paint Volkswagens and sadly they are all ours. I figure one Volkswagen in the yard is enough but the guys in the family seem to think we need more.
Now that you have your good set of mechanic’s tools, the next most important tools you’ll need for changing brake pads is normal tire changing tools. A jack is needed to jack the car up. The jack that comes with your car will work, but an aftermarket floor jack is preferred. The floor jack will allow you to jack the car in less than half the time, and it will be more secure once in the air. You’ll need a jack stand to hold the car in the air once jacked up as well. You will also need a lug wrench to loosen the lug nuts. The factory lug wrench will do, but if you can’t find it, you can find an inexpensive 4 headed lug wrench at an Pick and Pull store.
How much are the parts brand new? Before buying used parts from a junk yard check on the price of the parts at the Pick-N-Pull stores. You want to make sure that buying used is justified by a significant savings, or a part that is not extremely important. When I go to junk yards I most often buy parts that otherwise you would have to buy in pairs or sets, and only 1 part on the vehicle needs to be fixed. Also cosmetic parts such as Hoods, Doors, Mirrors (body parts) are usually best to purchase used. It’s good to check how much the parts are brand new because most junk and salvage yards have a no refund policy, and a lot of times new parts come with a warranty or guarantee.
When I was a teenager (in the 60’s,) I useful to dream of someday having mine car. I found a well used copy of a well-known automotive catalog with little black & white pictures, and wore it out looking at the cool parts I might buy someday. Well, a long time later, my dream came up true. I found some sort of 1959 MG, black with red leather interior together with wire wheels; very good shape, for only $600! I borrowed some dough from my dad, together with drove it home.
Before the internet age the Pick and Pull industry had been primarily occupied by the big conglomerates such as NAPA, Checker and a few others but thanks to the internet this is changing. Meantime, turn the heat back up on the broth and let it boil down about half the volume, then cool. If you’re not ready for turkey soup yet, package it for the freezer either by itself, or after returning some of the meat picked from the bones. When you’re ready to use it, thaw and add vegetables, rice or whatever you like.
Finally, you should always take your used oil and oil filter to your nearest recycling facility. If you are not sure where a recycling facility is located, simply ask someone at your auto parts store. Many stores accept used auto parts and fluids for recycling. If your store doesn’t, they will know someone who does.
